Since today marks the 27th anniversary of the release of Bloody Kisses, the album on which Type O made this jump from crossover-thrash provocateurs to goth metal sex gods, we decided to round up 10 of their tracks which are guaranteed to have listeners fanning their face in no time. As a result, their music became synonymous with sex in nothing but combat boots, and has been the soundtrack to many a metalhead’s never-though-this-could-happen-to-me stories. Not only that, but Steele’s avowed love of and dedication to women as his superiors gave their albums a sense of worship, as though its makers had fallen to their knees in front of the goddess of feminine sexuality. After a short stint as a ragtag hardcore act, the Brooklyn band - led by the towering, rumbling, Playgirl-posing Pete Steele - refined their style into a scintillating mix of goth metal, psychedelia, and doom that sounded like the blood rushing through your ears (among other places). There are bedroom bands, and then there are bedroom bands, and then there’s Type O Negative. Check out the track list and hear the Orcs after the jump. It was worth the $3, and I’ve got 11 tracks to go. So far, I’ve listened to one song because I like the band who played it - A Band of Orcs. So, I bought the comp, because I was curious. Lest you think this was just a rank effort to make a buck off of the helpless teariness of Peter Steele fans, MetalUnderground states that the $3 it’s charging for this 12-track comp “covers the costs of the mechanical license and the transaction fees” and that “ will be donating any leftover profits to charity.” The news is that MetalUnderground has organized a compilation of Type O Negative songs performed by other bands, as a tribute to Peter Steele, and made it available for purchase beginning yesterday, the anniversary of his death. Therefore, I am sharing this news because I try not to allow my own personal interests in music to dictate EVERY LAST FUCKING THING WE DO ON THIS SITE - merely 99% of what we do on this site. HOWEVER, I am aware that many people genuflect before framed photographs of Peter Steele and remain heart-broken over his passing. I bought the band’s final studio album, Dead Again, when it came out in 2007, and it simply didn’t vibrate my tuning fork to the right frequency, so there I stopped. I’m just indifferent, because (a) I did not know him personally (b) I have never spent the time necessary to explore and learn to love the music of Type O Negative. I am not feeling especially sad about the death of Mr. 1 (Little Miss Scare-All) 90.6K I Dont Wanna Be Me 75.5K Christian Woman 67.9K Love You to Death 45.3K Kill All the White. Yesterday was the first anniversary of the death of Peter Steele, the frontman for Type O Negative. That may suck if you don’t like Halloween, but I have a feeling the music is going to rock. Think of it as a week’s worth of Halloweens. What to do to make up for this fuck-up? Well, it’s probably not as good as another phony tour t-shirt, but what I’m going to do each day for the rest of this week is to pick three songs at random from the list of suggestions and play them for you. While metalheads throughout the Halloween-celebrating world were out getting smashed while looking even more ridiculous than usual, or getting smashed in the privacy of their own basements while looking only usually ridiculous, or simply ignoring the holiday in favor of whatever metalheads do on a normal Monday night, I was slaving away at what I do to put bread on the table (and the less said about that, the better). Unfortunately, my fucking day job turned into a fucking day-and-night job, and I had no time to do that.įuck, I didn’t even have time to listen to three of the songs picked at random. However, in order to pick the three songs I thought were best-suited for the occasion, I needed to listen to all the recommendations. I got a bunch of interesting looking recommendations in the Comments on that post. Yesterday I invited NCS readers to suggest metal for Halloween and I said I’d pick three songs from the suggestions and play them by nightfall.
